Most hip replacement pricing online shows you one number with no anatomy to it, and a number without anatomy cannot be compared. What does the price of a hip replacement include?
A complete quote covers the hospital package, the surgeon's fee and the anaesthetist's fee, in writing, before you decide. The hospital package is the largest component and includes your stay, theatre time, the implant, nursing and usually early physiotherapy. The surgeon's fee covers the planning and performance of the operation and my aftercare. The anaesthetist's fee covers your anaesthetic. At the hospitals where I operate, self-pay patients are usually offered a fixed-price package, so the agreed figure is the figure.

The range reflects complexity rather than approach. A straightforward primary hip sits at the lower end; a hip with unusual anatomy, previous surgery or significant stiffness demands more planning and more theatre time, and sits at the upper end. Your exact figure is confirmed in writing after your consultation.
Key Information About Private Hip Replacement Prices
My surgeon's fee is the same range whichever approach your hip needs, because the choice of approach is clinical, not commercial. I perform the Röttinger muscle-sparing anterior approach at Cromwell Hospital for suitable patients, and a modern minimally invasive posterior approach where that serves the hip better. The hospital sets the largest share of the price and central London theatres price differently from regional units. The implant and bearing choice matter. Length of stay matters, and most of my hip patients go home within a day or two. Most of all, the plan is built around you as an individual, your anatomy, your bone quality, your health, your work and the life waiting for you on the other side of surgery, and the quote follows that plan. Two patients with identical X-rays can leave with different plans and different quotes, and both quotes are right.

Do I definitely need a hip replacement?
Not necessarily now, and possibly not ever, and you deserve a straight answer either way. Hip arthritis pain reflects both the state of the joint and the inflammation within it, and for many patients a structured programme addressing the second half of that sum buys years of good function. The opposite failure is just as real: a truly worn hip that is endlessly injected and exercised while the person's world shrinks to the distance between handrails. Hip replacement done at the right moment is one of the most reliable operations in all of surgery, precise, modern and, in the right hands, remarkably kind to the tissues around the joint.
